Volkswagen Golf GTD Channels Its Petrol Sibling with Strong Performance and the Cheapest Fuel Bills
Volkswagen Golf GTD 2015 |
The Evolution on MQB Platform
Volkswagen is following the policy of
evolution and has evolved the GTD along its lightweight MQB platform. However,
look wise, it is not different from its predecessors but under the skin it has
major changes with punchy Volkswagen Golf diesel engines.

Volkswagen Diesel Engine
Volkswagen Golf has punchy 2.0-litre
turbo diesel engines to lead the whole series as a flagship model. Like the
Volkswagen Golf GTi, the GTD also has a choice of six speed manual gearboxes
and the slick DSG twin clutch transmission.
Running costs
Despite the performance car
credentials, the GTD promises the best ever running costs like of a supermini
with carbon emissions of only 109g/km for a manual and fuel economy of more
than 69 miles per gallon. The 2.0-litre turbo diesel engines are not that refine as the Ford Focus ST diesel engines. But
there is still a plus point, it revs very smoothly and remains incredibly
linear. It does sound grumble on lower revs but still have nice power delivery
and torque.

It perfectly fits between a fast hatch
and a useable comfortable family vehicle with firm suspension and an edge to
ride in sport mode. However the bumps never feel hard in the cabin of GTD.
If
you try the GTD estate rather than the hatchback, there will not be any
differences in driving dynamics and the acceleration is just the best and
crisp.
